January has been a busy month and I have found myself heading up into the mountains with a short amount of time to hike but wanting to get a good workout in along with some views of the mountains I love.
But, if you know the scoop you can actually hike the wall to the upper ledge, no ropes needed. There is a 1.2 mile trail off to the side of the main Lower Town Wall that allows you to hike up to the ledge of the Upper Wall. Sure you have to gain 1,200 feet to do it in little under a mile but the sweat is worth it!
The trail starts out crossing railroad tracks and turning right to walk along them. There is a privy on the left but that is NOT where the trail starts. An access road appears on the left where it heads into the trees along the base of the wall. The trail quickly climbs up several steep switchbacks to the northeast to quickly gain 600 feet in about .3 miles! Then, it cuts back to the west on an angled traverse that gives you slight relief from the brutal climb and avoids another cliff band.
Soon, though, you are climbing again to each the last 600 feet but at a grade that alternates between level and scrambling. Yes, there are a few spots where having your hands free is helpful. Just remember, the distance of 1.2 miles is from the parking lot, you begin to climb the 1,200 feet starting about .3 miles in.

To answer pkozlowski.opensource’s question: when you have either nested ngRepeats, a dynamic list (e.g. where you allow removals), or both (which is my case), using $index does not work because it will be the wrong index for the back-end data after sorting and using ngInit to cache the value does not work either because it’s not re-evaluated when the list changes.
Years ago, just days after learning to drive, I took a wrong turn and nosed into a one-way street. Rule 163 of the UK Highway Code stipulates that drivers of cars and other vehicles should give cyclists – and motorcyclists and horse riders for that matter – at least as much room as they would when overtaking a car. The use of the word “should” rather than “must” indicates this is advisory only and not a legal requirement. To secure a conviction, you’d need to prove beyond reasonable doubt a driver was guilty of careless or dangerous driving under the 1988 Road Traffic Act. And frankly that’s just not going to happen without video evidence.
Guidance of 1.5 metres is frequently given, but who’s got a tape measure or yardstick handy out on the road?
